In loving memory/of/Captain JOHN MACDONALD/born at Crowlin, Applecross 1830/died 24th Sept. 1899/and of his wife/MARGARET MATHESON/died 3rd Feb. 1895 aged 48 years.

The daughter Mary Marjory Macdonald who paid for this stone was one of the most notorious jewel thieves of early 20th century Britain. I have a file about her on my website with transcriptions of several newspaper articles regarding her criminal career.
