Thanks Donald, I was planning to get this done in April but you've saved me doing that. I was in contact with you sometime ago about my Macleod forebears, one of whom should be buried at Badenscallie, but there's no sign of a stone....probably disappeared under the turf.

" Under this stone lies the body of Lieut. Daniel Mackenzie of Achiltibuie, who departed this life on the 18th Sept., 1784, in the 19th year of his age. A complete gentleman, descended from a race of ancestors famed for their hospitalities. The social virtues which he did inherit he owed to nature excellent endowments, and by a liberal education, academical and military, he acquired many accomplishments. A safe companion, a sincere friend, in conversation pleasant. He knew how to practice the graces of life which rendered him at once open and respectful in his deportment, as he prized the merit of the heart still higher. By nature and princuiples compassionate, he was ever ready to perform the offices of friendship and humility."
The age was mistranscribed then, as Daniel became Tacksman in 1767. He was a half-pay officer from Colonel Keith's Corp, originally from Stornoway. I have some data on his ancestry and descent.
