Lewis Macdonald Fraser was a distant cousin of mine. His grandmother Barbara Mary(Mackenzie)Macdonald (1834-1916)was a sister to my great, great grandfather Charles Mackenzie (1822-1880). Lewis was the son of Barbara Anne (Macdonald) Fraser (1865-1949) and James Fraser (1855-1910) the saddler in Dingwall High St. Upon his father's death in 1910 Lewis took over the family business. His siblings were Jessie (b.1886), Catherine (b.1889), James(b.1891), Barbara(b.1894), John(b.1895), William(b.1898), Robert(b.1900) and Francis (b.1903). Francis was a leading authority in the study of whales and dolphins. For many years he was a curator at the Natural History Museum in London and was the scientific advisor on the Blue Whale project there.
Lewis's grandmother Barbara is buried at Urquhart Old cemetery (Image No. 3314) as is his great grandmother Barbara (Clark) Mackenzie (Image No. 3537).
