Search on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. You have to pay but they hold official Scottish records and it's easy to use. His death certificate should give details of his parents.

Thanks Roddie, I looked up the National archives record which shows he fell off the HMS Earnest in Invergordon Harbour. Apparently sailors can just fall off a ship and not be found for a couple of months and no blame attributable. He was stationed on the Blenheim until his death, yet fell off the Earnest. His body was not found until May in the harbour.
His second name is the maiden name of his mother, so I am convinced this is my Grand Uncle.
He is in a lovely gravesite, but too bad he wasn't sent home.
