Erected to the memory of ANDREW TAIT/late tacksman of Kepoch/[....?]who died 18 September [....?] aged 73 years/and his children./This stone is placed here by his son JOHN.

The inscription on this stone was transcribed in 1877 by Alexander Finlay Macdonald, a native of Kintail, who returned from Utah to interview his kin. From a copy of his notes - Andrew Tait, Taxman, Keppoch, born in Hawick and died 18 Sept. 1854 aged 73 years.
