Alexander Downie was the son of John Downie, Minister of Lochalsh, Stornoway and Urray (image 152). The information on this stone, erected by his grandson probably long after the deaths of his grandparents, is in accurate. Alexander died on 31 May 1820 and Janet on 9 June 1846 [sources Fasti Ecclesiasia Scotticanae and Blackwood’s Edinburgh Magazine Volume VII April-September 1820].

The grandson Kenneth Mackenzie Downie was the son of Rev. Charles Downie, Minister of Contin (stone 805), second son of Alexander Downie and Janet McKinnon. Their third son, Sir Alexander Mackenzie Downie, was Physician to the Landgravine of Hesse Hombourg and was knighted by Queen Victoria in 1840.
