Anna Munro nee Ross, the sister of my gggg grandfather David Ross, left a bequest in her will to Flora Ross Taylor, named on this stone. I think, but cannot prove, that they were related. Can you tell me whether any further people were commemorated in this burial lair? I hope further names, if any, would help me prove the connection. Do burial records exist for Nigg Old Church, and can you tell me how to access them if they do exist? Many thanks for any help you can provide.

If there was another stone in this enclosure, it would have been noted. There aren't any burial records of this vintage, as far as I know, and the pre-1855 Old Parish Records, did not include any deaths in Nigg Parish. Sorry.

Thank you so much for your help - much appreciated. The mystery continues!

I am a volunteer at Tain & District Museum and handle many of our inquiries. I have been involved with one or two related to Walter Ross of Nigg. I would be interested in any information you (Margaret Heal) have on your gggg grandfather David Ross for our own records and also I may then be able to help with your inquiry.

David Ross, my gggg grandfather, was born abt 1755 most probably in Ross and Cromarty. Sometime before 1787 he emigrated to Quebec where he married Angelica Stuart, the daughter of Murdock Stuart (who is stated to have been born in Tain abt 1737). Murdock Stuart was paymaster for Wolfe's army. I don't know whether David went to Quebec in the military or as an entrepreneur but he became a merchant in Quebec as well as a farmer until his death in 1810. Anna Ross Munro left bequests to the 2 surviving children of David and Angelica in her will, mentioned above. Further bequests were made to Anna and David's sister Williamina Cochran(e) and some of her descendants living in the Invergordon area in 1827. Any information you can give me regarding Walter Ross of Nigg will be gratefully received.
