George Sutherland. Elizabeth (Baillie) Sutherland.

Sacred/to the memory of/GEORGE SACKVILLE SUTHERLAND/[....?] also died at [...?] Oct 185[8?]/aged 61 years/ELIZABETH BAILLIE/his mother/wife of Colonel SUTHERLAND/of Uppat/who died at Mill Mount 21st Oct [...?]/aged 83 years.

I have in my possession a photo of a headstone which I found in a small GOUROCK cemetry, which details the death of GEORGE's youngest son " CHARLES BAILLIE SUTHERLAND" Who was drowned at the age of 17 "with many other paffengers by the COMET Steamboat from Invernefs : In the dreadful CATASTROPHE by which that vefsel was sunk off KEMPOCK on the morning of the 21st October 1825."

George Sackville Sutherland died at Rhives, Easter Ross, on 20 June 1812. Also buried in the grave are his wife Jean MacKay Sutherland who died in Inverness on 29 October 1858 and his mother Elizabeth Baillie Sutherland who died at Millmount on 21 October 1831 aged 83
