Hi, I live in Australia now but I was born in NZ, this is my great great grandfather's gravestone. His son James Shaw immigrated to NZ. I would love to learn more about what happened to the rest of the family, particularly Ian and Tom - James's brothers. The family home was 'Balavil' Conon, Dingwall. So exciting to see his gravestone, which sounds a little strange but having not been to Scotland makes me feel a little closer to my roots. Thank you so much. If you have any other information I would be so grateful. Many thanks. Suzanne

John Shaw's other surviving son [three very young siblings, including a Thomas, died in 1882 - see photo 13440], another John, was my husband's grandfather. I don't know anything about Ian - was he by John's second wife Jeanie? The family lived in Bridaig House Dingwall in 1881. The elder John Shaw was born in Culduthel, near Inverness. They lived in Culduthel House which is still standing.
