To/the memory/of/HELEN GILLANDERS/wife of/WILLIAM McGREGOR Esq./Conon Cottage, Maryburgh/who died on the 23rd Novr 1864/also/in memory of the said/WILLIAM McGREGOR Esq./who departed this life/on the 9th January 1870.

William MacGregor was born c. 1786. Reported to be the son of Donald Roy Buidhe Macgregor, one of Rob Roy's grandsons. Inherited South Galson Farm on Lewis before becoming Tacksman of Melbost Farm, near Stornoway (airport). Lived at Conon Cottage (Wrightfield Farm) at the time of his death.
