To the memory of JOHN MACKENZIE/of Tarradale, Arcan and Rheindoun/secretary of the British Society of Fisheries from its [..?] son of SIMON MACKENZIE of Torridon and of RODERICK of Applecross. He died in Temple London June 8th 1803/buried in St. Mary Abbotts, Kensington/[?] benevolence while it embraced all mankind was/[/] clearly directed and fixed on his own countrymen/[?] Celtic race in Scotland. Love of his country drew/[?] to every object connected with its improvement/[?] to the neglect of his own private interests/The Scot's Magazine Vol. LXV. 1803.
A fine Gaelic Scholar.
To him is mainly due the preservation to his country/of the Book of the Dean of Lismore.
