Contin Churchyard

A beautiful secluded location on an 'island' formed by branches of the Blackwater. Follow sign post from east end of the main road through Contin village.

Active Church of Scotland parish church. Modern burials mostly undertaken in adjoining extension burial ground.

After my visit there I wished I'd taken a wide shot, just like this one! (I also thought the stained glass window would be difficult to capture). Great to find this pic.

We visited this lovely old church in May of 2010 & were told at that time by the current minister that the graveyard was being excavated by archeologists that summer. Do you know if this project was completed & the graves identified?

I don't know Sharie. I'll try to find out.

We are coming in September 2025 from Canada with the hopes of visiting my great-grandfather's grave (Andrew Mackintosh - Memorial ID 101841221) and my great-great grandfather's grave (John Mackintosh) which I thought was in same place but might be in Kiltearn Cemetary? In any case, further to last comment about this cemetery being dug up - are graves still there? Please let me know if you can.

Is this about the archeological dig mentioned above, Brenda? I haven't visited this burial ground recently, but would be amazed if any existing graves have been disturbed. They were possibly excavating open areas. Hope you enjoy your visit.

Thank you for your quick reply. Make sense they wouldn't touch them but just worried me a bit. Really looking forward to visiting the Achilty where my grandfather was actually born and pretty sure my great-grandfather owned it at the time.
