Robert & Elspeth (Ross) Grant, Robert & Alexander.


In loving memory of/ROBERT JAMES GRANT/who died at Fendom, Tain/22nd July 1915, aged 56/and of his sons/ROBERT R. GRANT/G.P.O. Tel.R.N./died of wounds/14th Sep. 1942, aged 34/interred at Tobrok/ALEXANDER D. GRANT/G.P.O., Tel R.N./torpedoed in South Atlantic/24th Nov. 1941, aged 32/and of his wife/ELSPETH ROSS/who died 29th March 1953 aged 86/devoted wife and mother.

The next-stone-but-one to the left of this one, low against the wall and lost when the grass is long, is an unrecorded stone inscribed "AR to EF his affectionate spouse in the 25 year of her age." These people are Alexander Ross (grandfather of Elspeth Ross Grant) and his wife Elspet Finlay, who died in 1834 leaving a two-year-old son, Donald Ross.
