William, Jannet, Alex. & Catherine Cameron.

In affectionate remembrance/of/WILLIAM CAMERON/who died at Leaniag 20th June 1876/aged 16 years/JANNET CAMERON/who died in Leaniag 22nd December 1883/aged 31 years.


This stone is erected/by their sorrowing mother.


Also her son/ALEXANDER CAMERON/farmer, Leaniag/died 6th March 1899/and his wife CATHERINE MACKENZIE/died 22nd Decr 1933, aged 67/also their son MURDO CAMERON/died 2nd Augt 1933, aged 41/also ALEXANDER CAMERON.


"And God shall wipe away all tears/from their eyes."

Murdo is my great grandfather.Alexander who died at Leanaig is his father my 2x grandfather.Catherine Alexander's wife was born at Cawder.Catherine brought up my grannie Murdo's daughter.

Catherine was the youngest of 3 daughters. Her father had 8 children to his late first wife. Three of the children died as babies. Catherine's mother was a twin. Sadly her grandmother died not long after giving birth. Her grand father was a shoe maker.

William was the youngest of Alexander & Ann [macdonald]'s children. Hilliam was born in 1860 at Leanaig.Janet is his sister. Alexander, who died in 1899, was his brother.

Alexander and Catherine married in Inverness, in 1891.By this time sadly, only their mothers were alive. Catherine's soon to be brother-in-law, lived with his parents in a cottage on Leanaig.I guess that's where her older sister, met her future husband. Her sister Jamina married at Inverness, in 1893.

Sorry just read over what I wrote.William was Murdoch and Catherine's youngest child.He was born at Leanaig in 1860.By the time he died, in 1876, he was a clerk.I do have arthritis in my fingers, so L can only apologize for my writing.Alexander's widow Catherine looked after her grand-daughter Margaret from 1916, when the child was 2 years old, until Catherine died in 1933.Margaret's aunt was Jamesina Macdonald, buried in New Urquhart graveyard.Jamesina's sister Annie was Margaret's mother.

Catherine was born in Cawdor. Her father was a spirit dealer. He died in 1866, when Catherine was only 6 years old. Her mother remarried in 1871, sadly her stepfather died in 1881.Catherine's mother died in 1903 at Croy.
