Erected/in memory of/KENNETH SIMPSON/late of the 42nd Regiment/who died at Dunvournie, Ferrintosh/on the 27th December 1847/aged 62 years/and his wife/ELIZABETH ELDER who died at/BLANTYRE 3rd Decr 1878 and buried/there , aged 76 years/also his sister/MARGARET SIMPSON/who died at Alcaig 31 May 1880/aged 87 years.

Elizabeth's brother George Elder died at Knockbain, County of Ross on March 13, 1880, aged 75 years (so born about 1805). George was married to Mary Masson. George had a son named William who was present at his death.
