Erected/by/COLIN GRANT, merchant/in Arcan in memory of his father/KENNETH GRANT in/Jamestown who died 21st July/1851 aged 80 years/Also/his mother [.......?]/MACDONALD/who died 2nd Jany/1841 aged 81 years.

This slab was intact until at least 16 March 1971, at which time a transcription was made. This was essentially in agreement with Roddie Macpherson's, with the addition of Catherine (this name being more or less at the position of the subsequent split in the stone) as the mother. Thanks are due also to Roddie for being more definite about the years 1851 & 1841, due no doubt to his more practised eye! The transcription in 1971 entertained some doubt about these dates, recording them as "?1831 / ?1851" & "?1841 / ?1811" respectively.
