Alexander Mackenzie

This tomb was built/in memory of ALEXANDER/MACKENZIE of Bailon/who departed this life/the year 1724, aged 80 years.

Interestingly you mention this as the oldest of the tombstones in Clachan parish church graveyard but is, according to the 1941 book the Mackenzies of Ballone, mistaken in the year of death - listed as 1724 but according to details of his birth in 1634 and a life of 80 years (per the stone) it should be 1714...

I am a great grandchild of Hay Mackenzie - Banker at Ullapool in mid 19th century
via his one son: Thomas John, he also had two daughters Alexandrina (married a rector - no kids) and Mary Helen (no news of her marital status)

Am coming up to stay in Ullapool in Mid August - looking forward to it
