John & Ann Matheson & family.

In ever/loving memory/of our/dearly beloved father/JOHN MATHESON/who died at Boath/on the 17th Sep. 1913/aged 72 years/also his wife/ANN MATHESON/who died/19th Dec. 1943/aged 85 years/and their daughter/ELIZABETH (Daisy)/who died/10th April 1950/aged 50 years.


To live is Christ, to die is gain.


[LHS] and/ALEXANDER DONALD/New Zealand/Mounted Rifles/accidentally killed/at Belfast/Christchurch/New Zealand/after serving/from years/in Gallipoli/and Palestine/aged 35 years/and their son/DUNCAN MATHESON/died 22nd May 1965.


[RHS] in ever/loving memory//of wee SANDY/grandchild of/JOHN & ANNIE/MATHESON/who died at Boath/on the 21st April 1914/aged 5years and 9 months/also their daughter/HANNAH MAY/beloved wife of/HENRY MANN/who died/at Bog Farm, Avoch/24th April 1930/aged 27 years/also the above/HENRY MANN/died 16th Nov. 1971/aged 69 years.


Of such is the Kingdom of Heaven.

The War Graves Photographic Project note:- 7/1098 Alexander Donald Matheson, New Zealand Mounted Rifles. Born in Scotland. Served in Egypt, 1915-16, at Gallipoli, and on the Western Front. Buried at Block 1J. Lot 71 Christchurch (Sydenham) Cemetery.

John and Ann Matheson are my Great Great Grandparents. One of their sons Murdo went on to have a grocers shop in Fortrose High Street.
