Patt, or Pait, Lodge has been under the waters of Loch Monar since a dam was built in the 1960s.

The following extract from the Kilmorack Heritage Association's excellent "Glens and Straths" publication, refers, I believe to this family.

"One of the more famous inhabitants of Pait was the whisky smuggler Alasdair Macrae, who settled at Pait in the 1830s, not only succeeding as a crofter but also exploiting the local deer in the days before the deer forests were created. He and his wife brought up ten children and one of his sons, James (Hamish Dhu), continued to live there with his sister Mary until 1911 when they both retired to live at Aigas."

See also 'The Dark Mile' by Iain Mackay, which has a chapter on The Highland Smuggler.
